HOW TO DEAL WITH A MIDDAY ENERGY SLUMP

Let me tell you this; feeling exhausted after lunch is NOT normal.

Feeling like you need to nap every afternoon is your body’s way of telling you that you’re not fuelling it properly.

If you're like any of my clients who are running businesses and managing teams, you're probably noticing that it's wreaking havoc on your productivity and stopping you from performing optimally. Not only that, but you're probably finding yourself reaching for the biscuits and packet food snacks, along with the multiple coffees just to keep you going until the end of the day.

So what can you do about it?

Balance your blood sugar!

This table shows what your blood sugar levels might look like if you're not paying attention to how you're eating throughout the day. When your blood sugar is dysregulated you're SO much more likely to experience energy dips, sugar cravings and even anxiety (it also plays a huge part in hormonal issues).

Here are 10 things you can do to balance your blood sugar levels:

  • Increase your protein intake & start your day with a high protein breakfast

  • Eat more fiber rich & low GI foods

  • Stop drinking coffee on an empty stomach

  • Lower cortisol levels

  • Move more, especially straight after meals (a 10 minute walk is enough)

  • Pair foods appropriately

  • Stay hydrated

  • Balance your mineral levels

  • Focus on getting good quality sleep

  • Consider a high quality magnesium supplement
